Cow Camp Gap Shelter
Wonderful sleep and breakfast was marvellous. I had 3 breakfasts really, eggs and bacon, oatmeal and fruit( we call it porridge), French toast, endless coffee and orange juice. Then went back to outfitters and they checked and shoes should be in between 2 and 4. It changed the miles I was hoping to do today but I can relax. Right foot has a pain which could use some rest. So lazed around town and ate some more. I got my beard trimmed in an Irish barbers!!! (I’ve seen it all over here).
Jason from outfitters rang and said “bad news on the shoes”, heart sinks, then says “they’re here”, heart leaps. Finished lunch and collected them. Back to hotel to get rucksack and the owner very kindly dropped me up to the AT. 15 miles so that was generous. Because of the late start I only did a few miles to the first shelter. Probably good with new shoes. The shelter was off the trail by 0.5 miles. It’s always downhill so tomorrows start will be up a wasted 0.5 miles.
I likes those socks Bittersweet.
