High Point Shelter
Happy 4th July to my American friends.

Amazing day. Apart from start (see below). We spotted a deli on the map so that sounded good for breakfast. Got there and it was closed/for sale. But just ahead was trail magic. Real coffee, ice cream, loads of goodies. Moose was the guy. He got the name because he was hiking in the dark with no headlamp and physical walked into a moose. The moose thought it was being attacked and charged “Moose”. Only that “Moose” had taken his coat off and was able to throw it over the moose’s head, he would be dead. “Moose” backed away and the moose shook off the coat and went back to feeding. He had to wait till the moose finished and moved off could he get his coat back.
Then at lunch time, trail magic number two. They had pizza and smoothies and goodies.
Then headed to High Point State Park which has a lake with a beach. I swam #20 and had a hot shower and then used my Irishness to get spare ribs and sweetcorn and a shot of tequila from day trippers.
Thought for the day.
Disciplined
The Lord disciplines those he loves. Hebrews 12:6
Today I was disciplined.
Linda used to use the wooden spoon.
This was long before naughty steps etc.
Sometimes the Lord has to use the wooden spoon to wake us up to sin and rebellion. But he also sometimes just has to look at us with that disapproving look or even nudge us by the Holy Spirit. Today was a nudge.
A new hiker was at the shelter and she is only 3 days in. She asked if she could hike with myself and Legs to get a feel for the pace of walking. We agreed and in the morning Legs had slept in so I asked if she wanted to leave with me. She said yes but then she was so slow. I was ready at 6:30 and I asked about how long she’d be and 7 was the answer. I waited and then at 7 she said I should go on without her. I was frustrated to put it mildly. As I walked away in a huff, I got the nudge.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient (failed) and kind (failed) love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant (failed) or rude. It does not insist on its own way (failed) it is not irritable (failed) or resentful (failed) it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things (failed) believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things (failed).
The great thing about discipline is that it is not punishment but a gentle push so we come to repentance. Jesus took all our punishment so we don’t have to.
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
I learnt another good lesson today. Thank you God that you love me as a son.

ReplyDeleteAhh Stephen your a breath of fresh air.
ReplyDeleteYour like a kid in a candy store with the thought or sight of food π€£π€£I wonder why !!! The stories of Mooses etc are great ,the photos are terrific. No idea how you got to sit on that pillar ??
And then the story of the irritation of the newbie! Just soooo human ....Why the rush ? Where are you rushing too ? Ready at 6.30 ? Next it will be 5.30 ? To get there even earlier ......maybe you missed a chance to meeting someone really special ?or maybe not ?
Maybe she had a message for you ? Maybe a nudge to slow down and enjoy each moment .....but you are amazing that you even were aware you got the nudge !!! Most people are not aware.
Thank you for the reminder or Corinthians
X Jok
