AT 155 - 30th August [155.4]

Pierce Pond Lean to

Woke early as normal and turned over because shuttle was going to be later. Eventually went and made a pot of coffee. The hostel offered continental breakfast but actually it was everything needed. I made pancakes and eggs after cereal and orange juice. Perfect start to the day. Got dropped 40mins to AT and headed north. Started raining and path very soggy. Enjoyed the hike but got to shelter wet. Booked in to a campsite just down the trail for a pancake breakfast. If it’s there, why not!!!

Thought for the day

Jesus wept

John 11:33-36

When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in his spirit and greatly troubled. And he said, “Where have you laid him?” They said to him, “Lord, come and see.” Jesus wept. So the Jews said, “See how he loved him!”

Jesus wept, just like we weep at times of bereavement. This is the emotional side of Jesus and his reaction to sorrow. But Jesus also weeps in a different sense.

Matthew 23:37-39

Lament over Jerusalem

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! See, your house is left to you desolate. For I tell you, you will not see me again, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’”

Jesus also laments (cries) over Jerusalem. This is a cry that is spiritual. It’s different to his emotions. He is crying as the Son of God over the spiritual state of his people. They are and would reject him.

Can we have this spiritual crying ?

Luke 23:27-29

And there followed him a great multitude of the people and of women who were mourning and lamenting for him. But turning to them Jesus said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’

In this final passage we see Jesus encouraging the women to cry at the spiritual level. They were crying emotionally because Jesus is being lead to be crucified. But Jesus points them to cry spiritually over the state of the nation.

What about us.

Do we cry because of the state of our nation ?

Do we cry when we see injustice ?

Do we cry for the state of our families ?

This is much more than emotional crying it spiritual crying. We enter into the heart of God and cry for what breaks His heart.
