I got up at 5:30 and hit the trail at 6:30.
HARDEST 26km HIKE SO FAR.
10 hours solid walking with 30 mins lunch break. It was the slippiest, narlyest, most dangerous and wonderful track possible. It nearly killed me. One missteps and your walk would be over and maybe your life. It was orange clay and it was Treacherous, no grip at all. I used my poles all day to let myself down. One guy had no poles, I hope he makes it. The photos won’t come close to describe how bad it was. I loved it!!!! It the first bit of track that has been a challenge.
I met a Kiwi Ranger today. He is monitoring 10 tagged birds. There are 50 in the forest I walked through. He said there was a male just off the track where I met him. I didn’t see it.
