Bearfence Hut Shelter
900 miles!!! Lovely day with not too much hard climbs. Another wayside store to get a beer and snack. Got to the shelter and setup tent. Rambo show us how to light a fire in style. True professional. Loads of people here at Bearfence Hut Shelter. Shared my wine and marshmallows which went down well. I’m carrying too much food because in Shenandoah National Park (SNP) there are stores along the way. I thought they wouldn’t have the dried food but they do.
Thought for the day.
RULES.
I was in a dilemma back at James river. It’s prohibited to jump off the bridge into the James, but everyone does. Does that mean I can or can’t. Mind you, once I saw the dirt of the water and the snake on the rock, I was glad I didn’t.
We all make a choice to speed when we know it is wrong. (Don’t we CM!!!)
SNP has certain rules different to the normal AT. You can’t camp within half a mile of a campground or wayside, makes sense since they want people to enjoy their facilities. You can’t camp within 10 yards of a water source, makes sense to keep it clean and pure.
God gave his people 10 commandments to keep them safe.
Thou shalt not murder, makes sense to keep everyone safe.
The problem comes with Thou shalt not covet…. Who doesn’t covet your friend bigger TV or his flash new car.
Then there’s what Jesus said to the scribe that asked him which was the greatest commandment.
Mark 12:30-31
[30] And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ [31] The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
Who of us loves God with ALL of our heart.
The law was given to show us that we can’t keep it and need a saviour to save us.
Galatians 3:10-14
[10] For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” [11] Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.” [12] But the law is not of faith, rather “The one who does them shall live by them.” [13] Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”—[14] so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.
I’m so glad God loved us so much that he sent Jesus to take all our sins away and free us from the law. The life we now live is through the righteousness of Jesus.
Lots of people think it the balance of good and bad. If we do more good than bad then we’ll be ok. But it’s not a scales. The best we can do is not enough. Only Jesus was good enough to take all our good and bad and dies for us.
