Madison Spring Hut.
Today was the best day on trail so far. First we headed out in normal gear of shorts and shirt. It was windy and misty so also put on coat. As we headed to Lake in the Clouds Hut (not staying) it was so windy and cold my hands were numb. Got to hut and had two coffees and a pastry. Redressed in fleece and waterproof trousers, gloves and neck warmer, much better for conditions. Headed to Mount Washington, long climb up and 40 or 50 mph winds. Hard to stay straight on the path. Got to top and the wind was really strong. Headed for cafe and they had a hiker area in basement. Charged power pack and gps. Got lunch and chilled for a while. The wind was stronger than when I tried in March but it was dry and no snow!! The whole day was in clouds but it only rained a little in the afternoon. Headed down in 50 to 60 winds. The rest of the day was rock hopping in strong winds, a real challenge but I loved it. In one ridge between two mountains I got swept off my feet, I grabbed a rock but it came too. I suppose this was my second fall but I was pushed over by the wind!!! Found it hard to stand in the gusts of over 75 mph. Eventually got to hut exhausted but exhilarated, best day yet.
