Raymond Torrey Memorial Shelter
Most scary day yet. After the deluge last night the trail was actually a river. Most walking was like a duck, foot on both side of the trail and waddle!!! Then we came to one really wide fast river. We walked up a bit and found a tree across the river. It was scary but nice to get across dry. Later in the day we came to a crazy waterfall. It was a beaver dam that had overflowed and totally flooded the path. I assessed the situation and first thought maybe I could cross the remains of the beaver dam but thought it might collapse. I went down stream to where it split in two. The first one was ok. Above the knee but I felt fine. Then tried the other and it seemed to be deeper and was part of another pond. I went upstream in the middle and on the waterfall I edged out on a sunken bolder to the real torrent section. I put one foot out and found it hard to set it down on the bottom because of the force. It was touch and go all the way across, one slip and you were gone. I finally made it and the adrenaline was pumping.
Got to the forest park where there is a beach on a lake. I had swim #23. Also the sun came out so I dried my shoes and cloths.
This made me cry today
Telephone of the wind
Though I've lost you, I can hear your voice in the silent echoes of absence.
You speak to me through rustling leaves, whistling wind and bowing branches.
Though I've lost you, I feel you here in this shrine of trees in nature's sanctuary.
This Telephone of the Wind is for all who grieve.
You are welcome to find solace here.
Please use it to connect with those you have lost.
To feel the comfort at their memory.
May you hear their voices in the wind.
May you be at peace with your losses.
